Australia opens scholarship opportunities for Filipino development leaders
Australian Ambassador to the Philippines Amanda Gorely encourages future Filipino leaders to apply. “Australia Awards Scholarships changes lives. They provide an opportunity for talented individuals with the desire to progress development goals in the Philippines to undertake study, research and professional development in Australia. We encourage all eligible Filipinos to apply. We particularly encourage diversity in our scholars in terms of gender, ethnicity or disability”.
One of the key features of the scholarship is the re‑entry action plan (REAP), ensuring scholars bring their experiences and learning from Australia to contribute to positive change and development in the Philippines.
The scholarship provides an opportunity to study at any Australian university, six of which are in the top 100 universities in the world. The scholarship covers travel and cost of living allowance, tuition and other fees such as health coverage and supplementary tutorial assistance. Upon their return to the Philippines, successful scholars will be a part of the vibrant Australian Global Alumni community. Since the 1950s, over 2,500 Filipinos have studied in Australia through the Australia Awards Scholarships.
Notable Australia Awards alumni in the Philippines include Sabrina Ongkiko, public school teacher and 2016 awardee of The Outstanding Women in the Nation’s Service (TOWNS); Kritzia Santos, founder, 2KK Tulong sa Kapwa Kapatid Foundation; Adrian Robles, assistant vice president for Culture and Transformation, SMART Communications; Claire Jiao, producer, CNN Philippines; and Milton Medina, head of Qualitative Studies and Biodiversity Research, University of Mindanao.
Application for the program’s January 2019 intake are open between 1 February 2018 to 30 April 2018 and can be submitted at www.australiaawardsphilippines.org. Prospective applicants may pursue studies in areas aligned with the focus areas listed on the website above.
