It was 1999. Forensic science was still largely a man’s world. But the 30-year old Filipina scientist worked tirelessly alongside her male colleagues – forensic pathologists, lawyers, judges, police officers – and proved that women can flourish whether in the crime scene or in the laboratory. Her voice, after all, provided the crucial DNA information that would solve crimes. What these men didn't know was that the young scientist had just gotten back from over a decade of study in Australia; still adjusting to a brand new world, but ever determined to serve her homeland.
Filipino scholar receives award for academic excellence in Australia
Knoy Bite beamed with Filipino pride when she received the coveted Dean’s Honours List Award during the University of Melbourne’s Graduate School of Business and Economics (GSBE) awards ceremony on December 12, 2012. She was, after all, one of the only few Southeast Asian students recognised during the event.
